Transmedia: the Production Studios in Austin, Texas
The newly renovated Austin Studios is a 20-acre film production facility built on the site of the old Robert Muller Municipal Airport. Driving between the expansive and silent hangers, it felt I’d penetrated Austin’s equivalent of Area-51 hiding beneath the setting sun’s crimson hues.
Fortunately, instead of encountering armed guards, I found a group of Austinites eager to discuss the brave new world of online filmmaking — which is much cheaper.
“Technology means you can get high quality for low costs,” Loyd said of producing both Web series and films. “You don’t need $20,000 to get it on the screen.”
