Wi-Fi Miracast Standard Enables Peer-to-Peer Apps

The Wi-Fi Alliance has launched a certification program for its new Miracast standard, a 5GHz peer-to-peer wireless connection designed to simplify discovery and setup so that users can quickly transmit video content from one device to another.

Miracast users can do things like view pictures from a smartphone on a big screen television, share a laptop screen with the conference room projector in real-time, and watch live TV program from a home cable box on a tablet.
