Average time spent with digital media per day will surpass TV viewing time for the first time this year, according to eMarketer.

The average adult will spend over 5 hours per day online, on non-voice mobile activities or with other digital media this year, compared to 4 hours and 31 minutes watching television.

54 Percent of Russians are Already Using the Internet

Russia’s web penetration still remains somewhat limited, but eMarketer estimates that 54% of the population will access the internet on a regular basis this year.

Mobile internet penetration across Russia is expected to reach 32.8% of the total population this year, or 46.7 million residents.

British Teens are Leading in Savvy Smartphone Usage

UK teens are fast becoming the country’s most active and advanced smartphone users, and far outpace their counterparts in the U.S. market, according to eMarketer.

Teens in the UK, like most everywhere else in the world, are incredibly digitally literate.

About 93% of UK teens will use mobile phones in 2013.

Profile of Early Adopters for New Tech Products and Services

According to a market study by Ipsos, when it comes to new technology products and services, people fall into one of two groups — 25% want it now and 75% are more cautious, preferring to “let them fix the bugs first” or “see if it really becomes something” or “wait until I have to have it.”

The former group gets envious looks and bragging rights if what they’ve purchased truly does become the next best thing. But for most of us, taking some time before making the plunge into the “new” is more comfortable than trailblazing.

Some of the largest traditional PC manufacturers reported record revenue and profit declines in the last quarter, as desktop and notebook sales continue to slide downward. Clearly, the bright outlook for the media tablet upside will not benefit those vendors that failed to grasp the significance of this market transition.

IPTV in Only 2 Percent of Global TV Households

There will be an estimated 27.7 million households worldwide subscribing to IPTV services by the end of this year, and that’s up 7.5 million from 12 months previously. However, that represents just 2% of the total global TV households, according to a new report from Informa Telecoms & Media.
