On-Demand Movie and TV Revenues Grow by 44 Percent
Based on forecasts for 97 countries, on-demand TV revenues from movies and TV programs will reach $6.0 billion in 2018 — that’s up by 44% from $4.2 billion in 2012.
On-demand TV generated just 2.3% of the $184 billion total pay TV revenues in 2012. However, the on-demand proportion will grow to 2.9% of the $203 billion total in 2018.

How Asia-Pacific Region Leads Pay-TV Subs at 433 Million
The number of pay TV households (analog and digital) reached 772 million by 2012 — that’s up from 585 million in 2008, according to Digital TV Research.
Asia Pacific increased by 126 million — or two-thirds of the global additions — during this period to bring its total to 433 million. North America (112 million) was the second largest region.
Demand for Cheap Smartphones Explodes in Emerging Markets
According to the latest market study by International Data Corporation (IDC), smartphone shipments are expected to grow by 32.7 percent year over year in 2013, reaching 958.8 million units — that’s up from 722.5 million units in 2012.
2013 will mark the first year that smartphone shipments surpass those of feature phones, with smartphones expected to account for 52.2 percent of all mobile phone shipments worldwide.

322 Million Smartphone Users in China Seek Mobile Apps
Interest in finding new apps in China is notably higher than in the U.S. market. Whereas half of American smartphone users searched for new mobile apps at least weekly, that number rose to 63% in China.
And only 28% of China’s smartphone users reported rarely or never looking for a new app — compared with 40% who said the same in the U.S.

The strong performance of the two market leaders helped drive total shipments to an impressive 49.2 million units for the quarter.
