Global Smartphone Shipments Reached 980 Million in 2013

Smartphones shipped worldwide approach 980 million in 2013, representing 39% y-o-y growth. Samsung once again dominates, despite a fall in quarterly shipments to 81 million in Q4, and Apple sells a record 51 million iPhones — their best Q4 sales ever.

The emerging markets are vital to continued success. The gap between growing early-stage markets and the stagnating mature markets is what will characterize the smartphone sector in 2014.
